The Grinch Stole My Christmas Present

This morning my hubby got up and had an errand to run to a place he had not been before so he was going to use my Tom Tom that I got for Christmas. Only one problem. It is gone. Apparently when we got home from church he forgot to lock the doors, which is a rarity. Since there was no threat of snow he did not park in the garage either. We made a police report, not that it will help but if everyone reports thefts maybe the cops can figure it out. The only other thing we have noticed gone (so far) is my hubby's MP-3 player. I have been so depressed all day. Not because $200 of electronics stolen, it is because it was STOLEN! How dare some low life thief come into MY yard and help themselves to MY belongings. I feel so violated and disgusted. I have decided to fight back in my own way. It will not make any difference but I am calling them out. I have made a sign (picture to follow soon) and have it in my front yard. In a nutshell, it says Thief In Our Midst! And I have a short note addressed to the low life thief on it. At least the neighbors will know to be cautious and I hope the creep reads it himself.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know, it's a huge invasion, my house got broken into long ago and you don't ever get that trust back:(

That's why I never leave mine in the car. But then I forget to take it with me so when I end up lost I am SOL.

If you have the serial number I think you can report it to the company (those things register themselves when you connect.) Unfortunately most people don't think to note their serial number in a safe place.

My hubby is an auto theft detective and he always tell me, over and over, never leave anything in your car that you are not willing to part with. So even if you had locked it, if it had been in plain sight it might have been worse and you could have had your window broken. I'm sorry for your loss. Do you have the serial numbers on the items? Locally the pawn shops here have to list all items with serial numbers to the police. Also items are recovered during other investigations, so its important to record those numbers somewhere safe. And most importantly my cop hubby says, Don't let your cold car, become a hot car!" He did a public service announcement to never leave your car unattended in the driveway to warm up with the keys in it.

PS I've never had my car burgled but hubby had an enmarked cop car broken into in our driveway and they got away with his empty briefcase. He said it was his own fault, leaving an "attractive" item on the back seat. He was on his way to an Auto Theft Investigators seminar when he realized the window was broken. I found this very funny.

My hubby hauls everything in and out of the car, he is the one that owns those luxury car items, or if I use them its with him.

My son however called bummed one day, he even heard his dog barking, but lazy sat on the floor and played video games, and went down later to find his satellite radio stolen and they pop the back lock, now he does without.

I am sorry to hear of this, having a gun in my face years ago and at the mercy of an unknown outcome, they can have it all...I am glad to hear you two are okay!

(If I am repeating myself, I am sorry! My kids were freaking out over a lizard that got in the house! I don't know if I hit publish comment last time!)

I am so sorry about this! I hate that you have to feel that way! I don't understand why people do this garbage! I can't wait to see your sign!!!

This kind of stuff pisses me off! We had someone attempt to break into one of our vehicles 2 weeks ago and even though it was a failed attempt it still made my stomach turn at the gall people have. It's just plain ass sad that people have no respect for anything anymore!

OMG that just get's me fired up! I'm with you on the sign, people are just low!

When Cole was 4 weeks old I left the house at 9am for 3 hours to visit a friend. I came home to find our front door kicked in. The little punk stole all the DVD's the camera with the birth of Cole! my digital camera with all the pictures of Cole for those 1st 4 weeks! Other silly things, I felt so violated. I pulled out the phone book and called every (really every single one) pawn shop in the yellow pages. One and ONLY one lady (of course) took down my name and number. The rest brushed me off and said we get a police report and keep our eyes open. An hour later the 18 y/o punk went into that pawn shop! The lady knew it was stuff went she played the video on the camera and saw the birth. He of course lost the digital camera with all the pictures, said he left it on the bus! The reason he told the judge he broke into our house, was he needed money for the prom!!! He got off with a slap on the hand and turned around and broke into another house 2 weeks later. Got another slap on the hand and broke into another house a month or so later!

Oh yeah what a punk!! I guess this time at least I didn't show up when he was in the house like at my old house, walked right in and the went out the front door. Yup I have charm with break ins. 3 places I've lived and 3 cars. I'm hoping 3 of each is enough!!!

Girls - Thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support! I do have my sign out in my yard and it feels so good! I know I should not have left it in my car, but you would think you should feel safe with it sitting in your own driveway! Oh well, it could have been worse!

xoxoxoxo to you all!

I have had my car gone through in my driveway several times. The worst one was when my Dad had given my daughter a Silver Dollar,(she left it in the car) and the next morning it was gone!! I try to remember to lock my car, but I guess sometimes it does slip my mind.

This is my first visit, nice to meet you!!

I am so sorry you had to experience this. We had someone run right over our big fence in the front yard and they never bothered to tell us...my husband is 80 and this is a major disaster for us. It is repaired not but I hope the crazy that did it saw my poor husband out their repairing it.Your situation is even worse...I am sure someone who passes is the one that did it and will see your sign...good for you and great you are warning others. How were these people raised to have no regard or respect for other people???You have got me.

Here in Italy you have to remove your GPS or risk getting your windows smashed in and it taken.

So sorry yours got stolen! That's awful!
