I Need Help With a Puzzle!
Okay, my hubby and I are racking our brains tryng to help our son with this puzzle and need help! I know you girls will know because not only are you hot, sexy mommas but you are smart too! We are so close to figuring it out but are stuck. Here it is:
The challenge is to split some apple juice into three equal portions. The juice comes in a 24-ounce container. You have only three other containers each holding 5,11, and 13 ounces. How can you divide the juice into three equal portions?
I think I would be able to figure this out if it was wine!

Well my fiance (and kids) have been sitting here trying to figure it out and no dice...apparently we are all not very smart...we're still sexy though..lol!
I wanna know the answer to this one!
My boys say they have figured this out but I say they are cheating. OMG! My hubby and I are sitting here arguing like the fools that we are! Son has to turn this in for a grade. So we will see if the teacher agress with me or them. I will keep you posted!Nothing like 7th grade homework to make you feel like a dumb@$$! LOL!
LOL CHEF E where ar you??? That girl would know it off the top of her head ;).
Yup not smart enough, I'll ask one of the engineers at work tomorrow and email you with the answer ;).
You crack me up those are usually the best pictures right!
Thanks for entering my contest!
Here you go: pour the juice full into the 13 oz container. Then pour from the 13 oz container into the 5 oz container, full. What remains in the 13 oz container is 8 oz. Pour it into the 11 oz container. Pour the 5 oz container back into the original container. Repeat, but leave the 8 oz. of juice in the 13 oz container. Now you have 8 oz each in the 11 oz, 13 oz, and original container.
Ronnica is the bomb! My boys were close but they were so cheating. And being boys, they have no clue that they were!
Oh hell guys, oh and I am here, I did post, cuz Debra saw it...You take out the calculator if you forgotten math and divide 3 into 24...don't even waist your time putting it here and there...just 8 oz into all of them and tell the teacher...:)Actually I would fill the 11 and 13...wait till I pee and then fill the 8oz one...gosh I hated math in school...thank god I married an engineer who would love that puzzle!
I appreciate Alexis thinking I can pull anything out of my old head...
I had a hard time going back to sleep due to this one...I re-decided even though it has already been...that you fill the 11 & 13...then open a bottle of wine and fill the last, or throw out the juice really confuse the boys and fill the bottles all with wine, and let them wonder where the extra 8 oz came from...I know I was groggy :)
This is too much for my brain today!
I like E's wine idea...a glass for me please...
E! You make me laugh so much! You are awesome!
I had this answer yesterday AM and of course totally spaced. I want you to know working with Engineers can really suck or be handy at times. It took less then 90 seconds for a reply to come back. Like a dork I totally didn't think about the original container being part of the mix, counting as four containers. Yup, I'm a smart one! This was the reply I got back:
Easy.
Pour 24 into 5, leaving 19
Pour 19 into 11, leaving 8 in the 24 oz container.
Pour 5 into 13
Pour 11 into 13, leaving 3
Pour 13 into 5 leaving 8
Pour 5 into 11 for 8
